Wolfgang Gartner & Friends @ Wavehouse – San Diego CA – 08-21-2011

Sunset @ Wavehouse

It was a sunny Sunday morning when a sizable little crew of Party Animals piled into a couple cars and drove down to San Diego for Wolfgang Gartner’s much anticipated show at the ever popular Wavehouse in Mission Beach.  I’ve always been a huge fan of Wavehouse as a venue, remedy it’s literally right on the sand so the beach vibes are amazing, and besides the expected DJ sets, flowing booze, and beer pong tables, Wavehouse also features two wave rides at which the adventurous and daring can try their hand (or feet I should say).  It’s pretty awesome to watch your favorite DJ spin with someone surfing a barrel in the background.

This particular Sunday’s lineup was pretty stacked.  Besides Wolfgang Gartner headlining, also on the bill were good friends and homies DJ Kid Lightening, Dan Oh, and Them Jeans.  I was particularly stoked to catch up with Dan Oh and see him spin.  He’s a fellow Banana Slug like me (UCSC Alumni) and he moved to New York earlier this year, so it’s always great when he comes back to California to visit and play.  True to homie form, he played his stellar remix of our PeaceTreaty track ‘Change’ in his set, it’s a techno banger!

All the support DJ’s delivered awesome sets and got Wavehouse pumped up and ready for Wolfgang.  As the sun set and Wolfgang took the stage around 7pm, Wavehouse was packed, drunk, and rapid for his set.  He took the stage and delivered a blistering set of his trademark style of crunchy, distorted electro house.  He dropped all of his biggest hits including “Wolfgang’s 5th”, “Illmerica”, and “Space Junk”, as well as his latest hit and release “Menage a Trois”, which you can preview below.

It was really great seeing Wolfgang spin towards the end of a summer that I feel has been dominated by his particular brand of electro house.  Many artists have popped up and gained fame recently playing and creating this style of electro, which I really feel Wolfgang was chiefly responsible for making popular.  It’s great to see that he still stands atop it all because his tracks really are the cream of the crop.  Be sure to check out his full length album, coming out soon on Ultra Records.  Now to round things out, below are some more pictures from this epic Sunday afternoon and evening.
